Montessori
“The secret of good teaching is to regard the child’s intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination” Dr. Maria Montessori
As explained in our Senior Daycare section your child will spend part of his/her senior daycare day at Montessori preschool.
Our Montessori morning is tied to Aistear. The Montessori programme is a very specific method of teaching using many materials that were designed by Maria Montessori herself. For more than a century children have been nurtured in a happy and educational environment using this method and are confident children full of self-esteem when they enter the National school system. Montessori has adapted the Aistear framework into its programme and the four themes (Well-being, Exploring and Thinking, Identity and Belonging, and Communicating) are met using the materials in the below areas:
The Montessori method helps the child to further gain confidence, self esteem, improve language skills, concentration, co-ordination, and learn about nature and the environment. The child learns self respect, respect for others and the environment. They learn to make choices, compare and contrast and develop a further sense of order. These are the foundations for future learning.
The 5 areas of the Montessori Method are: Practical Life, Sensorial, Maths, Language and Culture. We have extensive materials in each of these areas. We also include Arts & Crafts, which the children love and these crafts will reflect the seasons, festivals and the work being covered in Montessori.
Children who attend sessional Montessori join us for the academic year and this gives the Daycare children the opportunity to meet other children during the morning. This broadens their horizons and further improves their confidence.
