Afterschool
Children coming to after school care are collected from primary school and travel by bus to our Centre. We also run afterschool in our Orange Room, which is adjacent to the Boys’ National school on Church Road. As this section of our programme is geared to older children the majority walk there if they are attending the Gaelscoil. They are accompanied by staff members. The children from the other schools are dropped there by our bus.
The children are provided with hot nutritious meals and activities that will include homework time, outside play, board games, arts and crafts, drama and music and movement. The different age groups will be stimulated in differing ways. Quiet areas are provided for reading and resting. We discourage screens in all of our programmes but during the summer the older children may be allowed very occasional use of them. On a very wet day, which interferes with outside play, we may put on a dvd for a short time.
